You And Your Doctor

Once in a while we all need to see a doctor who is our prime line of health keeping. Whether we have health issue or not, we should maintain our regular check ups if we want to preserve our health, and prolong our life for a bit longer…

When you are going to an appointment, and there is a health need that forced you to it, you always need to speak the truth to your doctor who will perform your check up.

No matter what!

NEVER LIE TO YOUR DOCTOR.

But you know what?

Many does and for so many reasons. This is not such a wise thing to do, because you might not get an appropriate medicament therapy to treat your condition.

And not to say that : your lies, or withholding the truth, might cost you your life at some point.

Which things you should NEVER LIE to a doctor?

Age

Why on earth would you lie such a thing? Are you embarrassed of your age? We all eventually will end up middle aged and getting older, and it is no shame to admit it.

You just have to accept the fact that you are getting older.

Don’t tell those tiny white lies about it, because it is necessary for your doctor to have all proper information regarding everything (your age included), so she/he can give you the best advise related to your own age group.

It isn’t smart!

Surgical History

Your doctor needs to know all about previous surgeries if you had any, because being honest about your past will help alleviate complications in your future.

This is of high importance, because every surgeon needs to have a clear background info, in order to minimize any risks for scar tissue, possible after surgery reactions and more.

By not telling this, you are putting yourself to many health risks, but of course – the good doctor will see-through you.

Medicament History

When you are experiencing some severe coughing episodes, or some other abnormal health breakouts, a doctor’s job is to not only diagnose you, but to help you, by giving the right dosage of a specific medicine you need as soon as possible, in order to overcome the problem.

A doctor needs to know what other medicine you take, to make sure the meds will not interfere with the ones you are already taking.

Don’t cheat on yourself either, and take your medicaments as prescribed. Don’t put yourself in a situation of having another appointment to see your healthcare provider.

Of course, if no results are shown whatsoever, maybe you’ll need to have other treatment.

Bottom line: don’t lie about medicine you are already taking, if you want to avoid lower quality of meds you take, or medicine interference between too many pills you have already swallowed.

Be cautious, this might lead to death situations sometimes.

Your Diet

If you are someone that is struggling with too many pounds, and you are unable to shred them despite all your efforts, you may decide to turn to a professional nutritionist for help and guidance.

And when you receive your diet plan you better stick to it, because if you don’t – no lies will save you from being dishonest about your eating habits.

The measurement scale won’t lie…

Instead of feeling shameful for letting yourself into sweet cravings, or not working out for a while, you better explain what’s holding you back, so your nutritionist can give you the best possible advice to you.

If you are being dishonest, and have issues with keeping to your diet plan, maybe you will need some additional help from a psychiatrist to determine your vulnerabilities and cure them with a therapy.

What is more important to you? Your health or your cake?

Health, I presume.

You Are A Smoker

I bet you already know how much health hazardous is smoking  and is there any need to lie to your doc about it? If you have put yourself to any anti-smoking program, at least try to stick to it.

It really is severe health hazardous habit, and know that you inhale too many deadly chemicals, which in return are leading to many health problems including lung cancer.

Nicotine is very detrimental to healing, and many surgeons will not perform certain surgeries because the incision may break down, causing significant scarring after a long healing process.

Sometimes patients lie about smoking just to get the procedure done, but in the end, they are just hurting themselves causing possible surgery side effects.

It is kind of deadly pleasure – don’t you think?

Diet Supplements

Either you turn to some holistic doctors or primary care physicians, they all have in common: they want to help you stay healthy and happy as long as possible.

There are times when patients are embarrassed to admit that they are taking some kind of vitamins, supplements, or even herbs, because their doctor might disagree with them for believing in natural health remedies.

However, you shouldn’t take any supplements without your health check up in first place, because your body might not need all vitamins and minerals you intake additionally.

And in return, too much of them can appear as health hazardous at some point.

How?

There can be interactions between certain vitamins, minerals or herbs and prescription medication you take. These interactions could lead to higher or lower levels of medication quality you are taking, which could greatly impact your health.

It is always better to be honest about these issues than to lie.

After all, doctors should know best.

Recreational Drugs

Health enemy number 1. And unfortunately it is going rapidly not only among youngsters, but among elder population too.

We are not going to elaborate now for what reasons they do so, but from another point of view.

Some patients don’t want to admit their drug use because they don’t want that information to become part of any kind of medical record.

They do so because of the fear it could affect their insurance policy or their employment quest.

The worst habit EVER!

If you consume marijuana semi-frequently, you might have trouble with your focus and memory abilities, or you might feel depressed or moody in a way.

What happens if you don’t tell your doctor this?

You could end up with a prescription you don’t need in first place.

If you, as a patient, are not truthful with your doctor, you might get treated unnecessarily with powerful psychiatric drugs to combat these neuropsychiatric symptoms, when all you’ll probably need is to stop the use of any kind of recreational drug.

Smoking marijuana and other drugs is harmful to the lungs, and doctors need to know this in order to screen patients appropriately.

There are many other potential side effects of drug use, so it is dangerous for you to be treated in the medical system without a doctor’s knowledge of this part of your history.

Another deadly pleasure!

Abortion And Sexual History

Abortion

It is something you shouldn’t hide or need to be ashamed of. There are certain situations that lead to this decision and it should’t put a shade on your personality as a human being.

The reasons for it are only yours, but if you have to deal with some health issues, you better let your doc know about it.

And if you are trying to get pregnant, and you’ve had an abortion for which you are dishonest, you shouldn’t be, because your gynecologist will determine it whatsoever.

There can be scar tissue and damage to the uterus, and doctors want to make sure that you have a good uterine cavity before any embryos implant during IVF.

Knowledge of an abortion will help them to properly evaluate the uterus, offer a proper medication protocol and take extra steps to make sure the uterus is ready for implantation procedure.

Be honest about this!

Sexual History

It is necessary for doctors to know about your sexual history, how many partners you’ve had, if you had any unprotected sex and if you’ve had any STD.

All of this is necessary to determine the possibilities for you to get pregnant, if you have experienced any difficulties so far.

Trust your doctors and be open about this issue!

No need to hide anything…

doctor

Fear Of Doctors

Does fear from seeing a doctor makes you rather google your illness symptoms instead?

Don’t do that!

Seeing a doctor when you have health problems is a MUST!

No googling will solve your problems until you address a healthcare professional…

After all – you are not a doctor!

Skin Problems And Sun Exposure

It is really important to tell your doctor about all “sunny” habits you have. Too much sun exposure might lead to appearance of skin cancer as a worst case scenario(God forbid!)

Most people don’t realize that they get too much of sun exposure on a daily basis by going in and out of their car, driving with an open window and the left arm is sun exposed while driving (in England and Australia is right arm exposed by driving), or walking to the nearest grocery…

Reveal all your daily habits so you can receive the best possible advice for skin care solutions.

You should trust your dermatologist!

Drinking Habits

If you have a drinking problem, you should admit it to yourself that it REALLY is a problem you need to attend to. Drinking will ruin your life in general, not only your health.

And in meantime, if you have some other health issues you need to solve, tell about your alcohol habits because drugs prescription and alcohol should not be mixed.

This may lead even to death, and it is something you shouldn’t play around with.

Admit your drinking problem, and find inner strength to solve it ’cause it is for your own good.

Be smarter than that!

Bottom Line

We hope that by elaborating the aforementioned doctor-patient relations should rise the awareness to a much higher level, making you understand the necessity of being open and honest with your doctor if you want to be cured properly and on time.

Take time to read this, and if you find yourself among these lines – you better change some of these habits.

Be honest!
