Why Do Feet Stink

As we all have our shoes on most of the day, our feet get sweaty. Some people have light and some have heavy sweat.

And if you wear socks and footwear that does not allow moist evaporation – you are in a “stinky” trouble – moist will get trapped and bacteria will thrive like flowers on a sun.

Initially, bacteria stick to shoes and socks, but in time they pass onto skin, and that is the starting point of smelly feet.

But, it isn’t the only cause of smelly feet. There are other causes like:

  • Poor hygiene
  • Medication
  • Stress
  • Hormone changes
  • Hyperhidrosis

How Can You Prevent It

Well, there are a couple of things that can prevent feet odor.

  • Wash your feet on daily basis
  • Change your socks regularly
  • Keep your toenails in good shape(trimmed regularly)
  • Use feet spray
  • Make sure your feet are dry
  • Change your footwear(don’t wear the same pair whole week)
  • Sprinkle some baking soda to disinfect them

How To Get Rid Of Smell In Your Shoes

Here we have chosen 7 tricks how to get rid of that nasty smell within your footwear.

1.Baking Soda

Baking soda is always No.1 choice. Sprinkle some and let it stay over night. Dump out the powder the next morning, but be careful with leather shoes since they might get dry.

You can also stuff some socks with 2-3 tbsp of baking soda, tie them in knot and put them in. In the morning, remove them and see if it has results.

2. Salt

Sneakers can get smelly especially at summertime, if you wear them without socks. You can remove that odor by sprinkling some salt to capture the moisture and save you from nasty smell.

3. Essential Oils

Put a few drops of essential oils in, and see how you’ll get immediate refreshing smell. Eucalyptus and tea tree oil are best for this. If you don’t want to put it directly in the shoe, you can put few drops on a cloth and slide it in. Let it stay overnight.

4.Baby Powder

If you are unfortunate of having heavily sweaty and smelly feet, baby powder might be your savior. Before wearing them at all, put baby powder first and you will prevent bad odor to occur.

You can even put some baby powder on your feet prior wearing any socks and prevent the smell. Baby powder will absorb all the moist and in return you will get that baby powder refreshing fragrance going.

5.Rubbing Alcohol

Bacteria and alcohol are not best friends and that is good reason why it should be used as a home remedy to help get rid of shoe odor.

Take some rubbing alcohol and put some in a spray bottle. Spray the inside of the shoes. Let it dry overnight and the odor should be gone.

Note that you should avoid putting alcohol on the outer area especially if they are made out of leather.

6. Freeze Them

If none of these remedies work for you, try freezing them. Put them in a plastic grocery bag and leave them overnight. The cold should kill the bacteria. Repeat if necessary.

7. Use Your Washer

I think that many of you have put your sneakers in a washing machine and it turned out to be a good choice. If it is showing results – do it. But try not to ruin them with too many washes.

Do you have any trick in your sleeve to share it with us? Please do.
